Louis Matthew Morais

A 1st generation Malaysian, Matthew has been working in the banking sector for the past nine years. The only girl he has ever liked was a girl he met in St. Anne’s church in Klang at the age of 15. She once made him a big birthday card, which he still keeps in a box at his house.  But, those feelings never did take root, as he has always felt strongly attracted to men. He says, “I never felt guilty of my attraction to men. It was just natural for me, even if it was not normal for other people.” Matthew was in a relationship for 18 years with his ex-boyfriend, but his ex’s family has never fully accepted their relationship. “I am comfortable talking about being gay,” he says, challenging the taboos of speaking about homosexuality.
